Society's Stain

Destruction,
Tension builds and bubbles,
Heat burns and blisters through signs,
Black Lives Matter,
All Lives Matter,
Bullets scream from all directions,
Whistling past public perception,
Coffins are stacked in a single column,
Heavenly,
Babel’s tower of confusion,
Misinterpretation,
A lack of common ground,
Combined with an increasing great height,
Causing the tower to sway in the chill air,
Precarious, like the public’s patience;
Uncertain,
Unconfident,
Untrusting,
Power and the coffin-count balancing on a scale,
Tipping uncontrollably,
The soil underneath fresh from blood,
Staining the entire community,
The country,
The world,
And an uprising bursts forth from the murmurs,
Sights are locked,
More guns are cocked,
And society, once again,
Is left in shock.
